What is the holocaust?
The word holocaust comes from the Greek words hólos, meaning "whole" and kaustós, meaning "burnt", altogether meaning sacrifice by fire. It was the destruction of over 11 million lives, including 6 million Jews, many people that were prosecuted during the 6 years of WWII from 1939 to 1945 including Jews, gypsies, handicapped people, Poles and homosexuals. World War II was started by the Nazi Party, led by Adolf Hitler, who was Führer of Germany from 1934 to 1945. They believed Germans to be the perfect race, and that any other race was inferior, particularly the Jewish people.
